Grace at Work - The Book at a Glance

Eleven chapters, one reframe: your daily work is holy ground. This is the compressed map.

The whole book answers one question: is there any purpose in my work beyond a paycheck? Chapell's answer is yes. Every honest job exists on the holy ground of God's calling, and grace reframes both the grind and the glory of it.

1. Dignity. Work has dignity because you are an image bearer first (label before labor), and because work predates the fall (a gift, not a curse). Genesis 1:26-27; 2:15; Psalm 8.

2. Purpose. Your vocation is your profession: you represent Christ in your practices, your products, and your sacrifice. You work heartily as for the Lord. Colossians 3:17, 23-24.

3. Integrity. Integrity adorns God's character. It risks loss, waits for God, and may mean suffering for the Savior. Psalm 25; Philippians 1:29.

4. Money. Money has three gospel purposes: mercy, family, ministry. Contentment frees generosity; security is God, not the bank. 1 Timothy 5:8-18; 6:6-10.

5. Success. Success is blessing God by multiplying his gifts. Faithfulness, not accumulation, is the measure. Deuteronomy 8; Matthew 25:14-30.

6. Humility. King Jesus rides a donkey. Humility is chosen, costly, and courageous - not timidity. Matthew 21:1-17; Philippians 2:6-8.

7. Glory. You were made for glory: image bearers who extend God's glory into every workplace. All honest work is priestly. Genesis 1:26-28; 1 Corinthians 10:31.

8. Evil. Expect evil at work. Evil comes even from "good people," and the antidote is confession and confidence in God's faithfulness. 1 Peter 4:12; Psalm 55.

9. Leadership. Respect leaders; and if you lead, labor among your people, admonish, encourage, help, be patient. Seek flourishing. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-15.

10. Balance. Unless the Lord builds the house. Awe is the antidote to anxiety; Sabbath and seasons of life keep work in its place. Psalm 127.

11. Witness. God's promises outweigh our problems. Be salt and light: your good works are as important as your words. Matthew 5:10-16.

The one reframe Vocation, not occupation. You are called where you already stand. The desk, the screen, the meeting - each is holy ground when Christ's name is on it.
