# Mission: Philippians — Devotional Study

## Why
The user wants to grow in devotion to Christ through a close, devotional, verse-by-verse study study of Paul's letter to the Philippians — letting its themes (joy, contentment, humility, gospel partnership, knowing Christ) reshape everyday life, not merely gathering information.

## Success looks like
- Can articulate the *flow* of the whole letter — what each of the four chapters is doing and how they connect — not just the famous detached verses.
- Has internalized the letter's core themes (joy in suffering, the mind of Christ, surpassing worth of knowing Christ, contentment in every circumstance) in a way that changes thought and action.
- Reads Philippians devotionally and confidently on their own, connecting each passage to the larger story.
- Builds a long-term, daily rhythm of engaging the letter.

## Constraints
- **Devotional growth** is the goal — life application first, not academic exegesis or teaching prep.
- User is **familiar** with the book (knows famous passages like Phil 4:13, 4:6-7) but not the whole flow. Zone of proximal development: fill in the structure and connect the famous bits to their context.
- **Medium-length daily lessons** — completable in 20-30 minutes, one passage or concept at a time.
- Two trusted source texts already in hand: Adrian Rogers' sermon transcripts (`Philippians.md`) and David Murray's StoryChanger devotional (`philippians_and_colossians.md`). Lessons should draw on these.
- Christian devotional framework.
- Verse-by-verse approach through the whole epistle

## Out of scope
- Scholarly Greek exegesis beyond what illuminates devotion.
- Colossians (the Murray book covers both; we focus on Philippians).
- Teaching/sermon preparation skills.
- Producing a written devotional for others.
